I have for several years seen the term "province" used in regards to the part of Macedonia that was annexed by Greece in 1913 by Western media. There is no province of Macedonia in Greece but rather three PERIPHERIES which utilises the name of Macedonia with a geographical connector to it. The "province" of Macedonia in Greece is nothing more than fiction.
The Greek "province" of Macedonia, fact or fiction?

Even the EU agrees, there is no "province" of Macedonia in Greece. So why does Greece continue to lie about this and why does the Western media keep on claiming a lie as a fact?
See here:
The Republic of Greece, is not divided into Provinces but rather into Peripheries.
There are 13 Peripheries in Greece which of three holds the name of Macedonia with a geographical definer connected to it.
They are;
1. Dytiki Makedonia (West Macedonia)
2. Kentriki Makedonia (Central Macedonia)
3. Anatoliki Makedonia kai Thraki (East Macedonia and Thrace)
As we can see all of the names have a geographical definer and one of them is a complex name with the inclusion of Thrace in it.
Dytiki Makedonia (West Macedonia)
Kentriki Makedonia (Central Macedonia)
Anatoliki Makedonia kai Thraki (East Macedonia and Thrace)
A map showing all Periperies in the Republic of Greece
All these maps are found on the Official EU website,

Administration of the Country
Greece is divided into 13 administrative divisions, named "Peripheries" (Districts).
The next level of administrative division is the "Nomos" (Prefecture). In total there are 51 Nomi, and one self-governed territorial division (Agion Oros, on Mount Athos).
Local Communities are named either "Dimos" (City) or "Kinotita" (Community). In total there are 900 Dimi and 133 Kinotites.

Please note that this is official information from the Hellenic Republic - Ministry of Tourism - Greek National Tourism Organisation.
When will the Greeks wake up from their mythical dream? There is NO PROVINCE OF MACEDONIA IN GREECE even your government recognizes this. THIS IS A FACT!
All names are complex names with an GEOGRAPHICAL definer connected to it, thus there is no possibility to mistake these Peripheries in Greece with the Republic of Macedonia.Macedonian Truth Organisation

I wonder why the government of the Republic of Macedonia has not mentioned this in the name negotiations, if they would I think the most ardent negotiator would have to end the negotiations in the Republics favor.Macedonian Truth Organisation

The following is some more info on the subject:
The regions, are the traditional (and official until the 1987 administrative reform[1]) subnational divisions of Greece. The regions are still widely referred to in non-official contexts and in daily discourse. There are 10 regions[2] (seven on the mainland and three island groups), which are further subdivided into 54 prefectures.

Province or not...
It also has to be remembered that prior to the renaming by the Greek government in 1988, there was NO such region called 'Macedonia' in Greece whatsoever...the administrative area was officially called 'Northern Greece'.
The Greek government only started using the name 'Macedonia' officially when they recognized the future inevitability of the breakup of the old Yugoslavia in the late 1980's, which they feared would result in an independant Macedonian state. This just goes to show that the whole name issue was artificially created by Greece in order to counter international recognition of an independant Macedonian state.
