    It`s useless, Greeks will never learn...

    I will show you two different news from websites. Both these events happened today at 15.05.2010;

    Haris Alexiou Street in Turkey

    According to a recent article published in Turkish newspapers, Haris Alexiou’s name will be given to a street in Izmir(Smyrne) at the seaside borders of Turkey with Greece.

    Haris Alexiou is a very popular Greek singer in Turkey, and therefore the officials of the city of Izmir decided to honor the singer, giving her name to one of the city streets.

    It is also worth mentioning that Haris Alexiou is partially originated from Minor Asia and the city of Izmir, as her grandmother was from this region.

    Haris Alexiou Street in Turkey: according to article published in Turkish newspapers, Haris Alexiou's name will be given to a street in Izmir (Smyrne) in Turkey

    There was an opening ceremony today for the "Haris Alexiou" street and concert afterwards in Izmir to honor her and her Izmir born family. Haris came with 80 other children of Izmir immigrants and Turks welcomed them with flowers and presents.

    While we present flowers to the Greeks in Izmir, this was happening in Athens at the same time;

    Erdogan in Greece: Turkish flag burnt in Athens

    Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan is paying an official visit to Greece. Early reports said Greeks, Armenians and the supporters of Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) were planning to boycott Erdogan’s visit.

    According to CNNTurk, Greek protesters have burnt Turkish flag in a street of Athens Saturday. The protesters were holding posters reading: The Aegean Sea Belongs to the Greeks. The police prevented further expansion of the protest action. According to the source, the protest action was organized and backed by the Nationalist Party of Greece.

    YouTube - Atina'da Türk Bayrağı'nı yaktılar!..

    Our prime minister canceled his scheduled visit to Greece several times but Mr. Papandreu insisted for it. He gone there yesterday, Greeks and their fellow PKK terrorists welcomed him like that today. Papandreu announced that they canceled visa requirement for Turkish people to the Greek islands and invited us but i just saw this event in Turkish news website. There was 500+ comments and everyone says that;

    "Stupid Erdogan better return to Turkey asap. Whoever goes to Greek islands and spends 1 euro there, they are traitor gayreeks, non-other". Let them starve to death for world peace"

    And i agree to them. It`s useless to deal with this fascists cuz they will never learn even tiny bit of humanity. I know there are some reasonable people there but they are minority. Majority are these fascists.

    My goodness, such extremes.
    How do normal Greeks justify these actions?

    Golden Dawn on the march again. Why no gas chamber for them?

    Greeks should really move into the 20th century. We can talk about the 21st century once that happens.

      the greeks are full of hate...if i had the power of superman i would pick every greek and throw him out of the planet !!!
      1) Macedonians belong to the "older" Mediterranean substratum...
      2) Macedonians are not related with geographically close Greeks, who do not belong to the "older" Mediterranenan substratum...

        The successive Greek governments have created/supported this frenzy of hatred. The Greek government can fix this but it would require a willingness to become humane.

            Sometimes I wonder if Greeks present similar mentality to Germans pre WW1 and WW2

              Do you guys think it's possible that new politicians will actually emerge in Greece beyond the two major corrupt families? If so, will this change the way they use fear and hatred to cover up corruption, and therefore let Macedonians live in peace?

                  Turkish PM visits troubled Greece, backs arms cuts

                  By ELENA BECATOROS (AP) – 1 day ago

                  ATHENS, Greece — The prime ministers of Greece and Turkey — longtime foes that have invested heavily in the military to ward off one another — held what both described as a historic meeting Friday, hoping to improve ties and economic cooperation as Greece struggles under an acute debt crisis.

                  Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on his first trip to Greece since 2004, promised to support his indebted neighbor's efforts toward financial recovery. Athens has been promised euro110 billion ($138 billion) in rescue loans from European countries and the International Monetary Fund to stave off bankruptcy.

                  "This visit for us is historic and has special importance," Erdogan said at a meeting with Greek Parliament Speaker Filipos Petsalnikos.

                  The two NATO-members came to the brink of war three times between 1974 and 1996 over the ethnically divided island of Cyprus and territorial rights in the Aegean Sea. They are still divided over several issues, including territorial disputes which often lead to mock dogfights by fighter jets above the Aegean Sea that separates them.

                  Relations had improved markedly after both countries were struck by successive earthquakes in 1999, but ties have since frayed again.

                  Turkey's 380-strong delegation in Athens on Friday included 10 Cabinet ministers and about 100 businessmen.

                  [....]

                  Read full article here.

                  It is very beneficial for both countries to reduce military spending, which mainly goes into coffers of rich European nations and USA (maybe some to Russia via Greeks), and to spend the savings on civil services and infrastructure to meet the needs of their respective people.

                  Onur, IMO, the Kurdish people should be accorded the right to self determination and Turkey should stop undermining the drive for full sovereignty of the Kurdish state in Iraq.

                  Also remember that Turkey, like our other great "friends" USA and Bulgaria, supported the imposition and implementation of the 2001 infamous "Ramkoven dogovor" (aka "Framework Agreement") that turned Macedonia from a Macedonian state into a multi multi-ethnic non-Macedonian, an experimental apartheid system that leads to the demise of the Macedonian identity. Now Turkey, Bulgaria and USA should PRACTICE WHAT THEY PREACH and implement the same arrangement in their countries. Considering the huge Kurdish population in Turkey, I am sure Turks would "love" to have a system similar to the one they pressured Macedonians to accept. What do you say to that, Onur?

                  Lastly, the 2008 NATO recommendation for Macedonia to negotiate, read change its name, a "mutually" acceptable state name with Greece was in fact a unanimous decision, which means ALL our so called "friends" are supporting and pressing for a name change. EU and US/NATO are the ones pressing Macedonians and using Greece as the excuse to deconstruct and exterminate our Macedonian identity.

                      I am definitely for Kurdish self determination. How on Earth 50 million people cannot do this for themselves is beyond me. But I am against the USA interference that is creating this renewed Kurdish issue. The Kurdish section of Iraq is very oil rich and the USA support is nothing more than self-serving.

                      The Kurds are definitely in need of their own nation, but the "new" support they seem to have sounds a little hollow to me.

                        I disagree Osiris. The Greek people are dying for a change but have seen nothing different for 100 years. They cannot even imagine what a change would entail, but they want it. They need it.

                          we will have to agree to disagree rtg i am yet to meet more than a handful of greeks who feel the need to learn the truth about their beloved hellas. in my experience in greece and melbourne most are rabid hellenists, their politicians are part of the same culture they dont stand apart, they represent it and articulate it.

                            I am not sure the Kurds are 50 million, more like 20 million or less, and they were apportioned to four large states (with majority non Kurdish populations and that have become militarily very strong) following the imperial carve up of Ottoman empire which occurred post WWI. They are in a similar situation to Macedonians except that there is not an international agenda to deny their identity but only to limit their statehood, which even USA is part of the plot. Witness how USA and Co are stalling and trying to thwart Kurds to reclaim Kirkuk. The Turks were treating Kurds as "Mountain Turks" in the past and I am not sure what the situation is today in that regard but that was a disgraceful breach of human rights, IMO.
