    Anyone find this video disturbing?

Annual Greek military parade in Lerin, Aegean Macedonia - November 2011.

Macedonian children are forced to march like Nazis

When I watch this video I feel strange, look how the kids are forced to march in a uniform fashion, look at how they are guided by the adults with nationalist songs playing in the background. It's like the deeper Greece sinks into world shame, the more pressure and propaganda is applied to its citizens at home.

Macedonian children in the village of Nered, Lerin (a village that has showed strong support to Vinozito) are brainwashed by the Greek schools to sing nationalist songs - November 2011

My baba is from Neret, so it definitely is disturbing to see things like this. That march is almost a replica of a military parade, raising good enough reason to be concerned. Seems as if they are trying to bring up a new generation of nationalists and grkomani as their latest effort to eradicate and alienate the Macedonian identity and culture.

Zarni, the way you put that seems as if you are placing blame on this particular generation. There are still many proud Macedonians in Egej, however many have also become a product of their hostile environment. Deep down many of these children are Macedonian, they have just been told to believe otherwise.

The 'greeks' are in great company...The North Koreans, several despotic African countries and a smattering of Banana Republics who all take great pride in exhibiting their goose stepping youth...

i find this film disturbing.I get angry that greece thinks it can force it's propaganda on the macedonians. If they are conscious of being macedonian they can't be greek they will be macedonian. The children must know what is going on.This is a case if forced assimilation.
Forcing people is not a natural thing.I think thre would be great hate & contempt for the greeks.

lol - ever since the 2004 Olympics the Greeks are well know for 'a half arsed job'. You can tell the first kids are Greek by the number not marching in unison. As for the other video, I don't think you can blame the kids, they will only do what their teachers say.

Why don’t the Parents of the children fight and make a noise how about a village confrontation with the Police.
Shit I was in Bitola 2 years ago saw many, many Greeks come and visit I talked to many and told all to get out and go back where they came from, speaking Greek to me then saying we are proud Macedonians
The Macedonians of Albanian and Bulgaria are more worthy of respect because the majority feel the same whilst the Aegean folk are more Greek then Greeks and out of a conscious choice I have heard all the excuses.

t's a charade & there are chinks in the armour the question is how long can they keep it up.Maybe even a revolt by the macedonians themselves.

Zarni, were they actually Greeks the people who you talked to who said they were proud Macedonians? I didn't quite understand what you meant, were they Aegean Macedonians speaking Greek/Macedonian?

The parents feel powerless because most of the teachers in Lerin are Greeks. It's the same tactic for the last 40 years, the teachers threaten the parents to fail the children or use fear to convince them that if the children are not "good students" they will never be able to find jobs in the future. The children themselves are tricked into thinking it's a big honor to hold the Greek flag (the student with the highest marks is awarded with this duty), and who knows what garbage is taught to them about Macedonia.

                          No offence guys,

But i am really getting sick of words when it comes to Egejci such as Powerless, fear, able to find jobs, entry into Greece, no choice, complicated, its been happening last 40 years etc etc etc.

They (Egejci) are not getting any sympathy from me. Nor should anyone else feel it. Grow some balls Egejci enough excuses! This weakness is getting embarrassing.

Make a stance.......or admit you don't want change and are happy with way things are.

That's fine Bill. I was only stating what I saw and what people in Aegean Macedonia told me after I brought up the same issue that you just did.

I was also told that people tend to underestimate the impact of the Greek civil war on the Macedonian minority. This was a time when families were torn apart, false promises were made, and a lot of innocent blood was spilled. People forget that in Greece, being a Macedonian or asking for rights was viewed the same way as being a communist, traitor to the state, spy, or terrorist. To a large extent this kind of labeling still exists today, and to a large extent the same fear from the civil war still exists in the mentality of Aegean Macedonians. In other words they do not want a repeat of the civil war.

                            The Grkomani are another story.

Just goes to show what can happen after 50 years of nation building.
I fear Macedonia will talk about its unique Macedonian identity in 50 years time (using the Albanian alphabet).
