I agree with Phoenix and Warrior, not only that i think we need to invest in technology too.

There are already companies who want to build factories for car parts i think one is Italian the other is French its definitely going to make things more interesting thats for sure.

As for the Supermarket industry its going to be very tight if Aldi comes in, because we already have Agrokor,Tush,Merkator coming in aswell as Tinex,Vero and Ramstore its going to be interesting have so much competition on board.

Prolet have you heard the Auto Skoda wants to build in Macedonia? my Cousin was talking to me about this today from Tetovo. It would be interesting hopefully create more jobs in that sector for people there.

aldi is a necessary evil. brandname companies might show others that if they are investing in macedonia then it must be safe to do so for themselves. i would much rather see macedonians from macedonia or the diaspora invest before all key markets are established and any macedonian newcommer has to rethink if they can find a place for themselves.

Please assure me I haven't entered the twilight zone and people are discussing a hypothetical, not an actual planned entrance of Aldi in the Macedonian market.

The only thing I see stopping the demise of the auto-mobile industry is the production of cars which will run an renewable sources of energy, the car industry has taken way to long to start investing in renewable forms of technology. Sure car industries may be good in the next 20 years, however we dont want what happened to Detroit to happen to Macedonia if only the automotive industry is invested in. I would rather see industries which look towards the future such as pharmaceutics, bioengineering?, nuclear technologies, information technology.

The car industry will go through its good and bad times as it has in the past 100 years. The failure in Detroit was due to bad management and US bigotness that their designs will survive. If they were more innovative and market competititve i dont think they would have had the same downturn as in 2008. There is a thing called, you need to change with the times and the US auto industry failed to do that....I dont think the Japanese are hurting that bad after the downfall..

Are you suggesting that the corrupt politicians and selfish officials running Macedonia will do a better job then the Americans of running a car industry?! (not saying that the Americans are perfect, they are far from it) Judging on the past record of the government in the last 20 years, I highly doubt they will be able to make it viable. However I am not trying to make a point about that, it could have greater employment possibilities in Macedonia, but again would only be a short-medium term option.

Lets face it, Macedonia will never be able to make the best cars in the world when you are competing with countries such as Germany and the US. What Macedonia needs to do is to find an industry where we CAN be the best in the world and Macedonia needs to gain a reputation in that field. Look at the reputation which Swiss products have for example. Macedonia needs to find somewhere where we can be the worlds leader, that will never be in the automobile industry.

The economy should be geared towards developing products of the future. What Macedonia has to do is to find that specific industry which will give the whole country a good reputation and employ a large number of people. I believe that it is possible, what do people think?

If cigarettes were not on the way out in the developed world I would have suggested them as a possible area for expansion, you know like Cuban Cigars you could have Macedonian cigarettes. They still could be targeted at the undeveloped world, where tobacco consumption is rapidly growing.

prolet, one egg per basket, and have many baskets .

Mastika, Macedonia doesn't have to be the best in the World in anything in particular...nobody is striving for the worlds best car to be made in Macedonia...we're talking about tapping into the huge component industry that supplies the major auto manufacturers in the World...

correction pheonex. macedonia does have the best tobacco. little is ever said anywhere but premium grade aromatic tobacco is purchased from macedonia and mixed with lesser grade tobaccos around the world to make many different cigaretts. the best tobacco comes from the region around prilep. the land is prticularly suited to it.

there actally is a macedonia ciggarett. great looking packet but the ciggaretts are not good enough.

You are absolutely right, the Macedonian tobacco is of a very high standard. The issue is that the number of cigarettes being manufactured is simply not enough to assert a significant share of the wider market. There is no organisation, at least the tobacco industry is something which hundreds of thousands of people already know about.

Pheonix, I agree with what you are saying, we don't have to be the best, but imagine what it would do for national GDP and national pride if our country started to take the lead and we became leaders in some aspect.
