Ivan Tričkovski (Macedonian Cyrillic: Иван Тричковски) (born 18 April 1987 in Skopje[1]) is a Macedonian footballer who plays for APOEL in the Cypriot First Division.

He joined Red Star Belgrade in January 2008 for a fee around €0.8 million from football club FK Rabotnički,[2]. He actually faced his future team (APOEL) in the 2008–09 UEFA Cup while playing for Red Star, and ended up on the losing side in a dramatic 3-3 draw in Belgrade which saw APOEL progress on away goals with a late equalizer in the 116th minute.[3]

He spent the 2009-2010 season on loan at Enosis Neon Paralimni where he scored 8 goals in 29 appearances and caught the eye of a successful club in Cyprus, APOEL, who agreed in principle to a 3 year deal with Trickovski in May 2010. It is believed that the transfer fee which was paid to Red Star Belgrade was in the region of €300,000.[4] On December 2010, the Belgian club Lokeren made an official offer of €1,200,000 for Trickovski but APOEL rejected it.[5] Tričkovski became a champion in his first season in APOEL, by helping the club to win the 2010–11 Cypriot First Division. He patricipated in the UEFA Champions League group stages with APOEL for the first time in his career and he scored his first goal in the group stages against Shakhtar Donetsk in Donbass Arena on 28 September 2011, by opening the score on 61st minute, in a match which ended with 1-1 draw.

[edit] International careerTričkovski was an established member of the Macedonia national under-21 football team.[6]

Tričkovski was called up in February 2008 for the senior squad to face Serbia in a friendly.[7] but he was forced to withdraw due to injury. Trickovski scored in his debut with the national team on 29 May 2010 against Azerbaijan with a beautiful volley, as Macedonia went on to win 3-1. Trickovski scored his second goal for Macedonia on 11 August 2010 against Malta.

Tričkovski also played for the U19 side. He scored a goal against Azerbaijan on 28 September 2004, a U-19 Euro Championship qualifying match.,[8] Armenia on 30 September 2004.,[9] France on 2 October 2004.[10] He also played for his country in the 2006 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship qualifiers.

For the U17, he scored against Italy on 21 September 2003, a 2004 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship qualifier,[11] and Luxembourg on 25 September 2003.[12]

I'd say his breakout year was last year when he practically scored every second game for APOEL and was linked with Rangers but APOEL wouldn't sell him. I don't see them selling him this year also considering they will probably make it to the second round of the Champions League and their asking price will be alot higher. So far in the group stages he has one goal and two assists. He deserves to go to a bigger club, our best player atm.

One wonders how they receive him in Cyprus and if they even acknowledge him as a Macedonian.

Yeah, on the official site they have him listed as FYROM:

There is a shitload of Macedonians in Cyprus playing football, its not that strong of a league and they can make decent money there. Here's two more Petar Miloseski and Bojan Markovski who play for Enosis and are listed as Skopian on their official site:

Darko Pancev wouldn't enter Greece unless they accepted his documentation as a Macedonian, and these guys have no problem being referred to as "FYROM" and "Skopian" on the official websites of the teams they're playing for. Disgraceful.

so whilst he is a good player he is not given the full respect that is his identity. These people have no brains they can't distinguish a country from a capital city.

And what kind of people from that country (Macedonia) would accept such a degrading identification? I understand that people need to make money to live, but I doubt that racist Cyprus was their only option. A bit of self-respect and pride wouldn't hurt.

I guess he doesnt care that much about his identity. Shame, can we still refer to these people as Macedonians?
Стравот на Атина од овој Македонец одел до таму што го нарекле „Страшниот Чакаларов“ „гркоубиец“ и „крвожеден комитаџија“.

I am sure he is a proud Macedonian, he just doesnt care what cypriots think of him. Personally i would not play in a country that didnt recognise my true nationality but that is just me because i admit I sometimes care too much about what people think, which can be a bad thing.

Dimi, you're talking about 'closet pride', which is useless. Where is his self-respect? Perhaps the identity of his ancestors doesn't mean as much to him as the euro dollar. Gruevski accepts "FYROM" in the international arena also, perhaps he is taking his lead.

I can't see any justification to play for a club that recognizes your origin as being from 'Skopia'...that's simply lunacy of unimaginable proportions.
