Makalek, It doesnt change much i thought it was a good hit out with alot of missed chances but Malta had some good ones aswell so it was a good open game but i thought we should have been more defensive at the back, there was a period in the second half where they were all over us and that didnt look very good.

The goal we copped was a very cheap one thats for sure but not as cheap as Slovenia's first goal against Australia.

Australia lost 2-0 away to Slovenija in Ljubljnana

Lets hope they don't embarrass all of us. But you must not forget that the game against Malta was a friendly that was played away, i think they will put more effort in when they take on Slovakia.

Jonuz Needs to remove Naumovski, Shumi, Stojkov from Natl Team

            Thursday, 12 August 2010

Judging by the 'football' showcased in Valetta last night, Macedonia will be in a world of trouble in yet another qualifying campaign.

Jonuz is the first Macedonian coach to fail to win against Malta. His predecessors treated the small island nation as a shooting gallery, scoring 5 goals.

The Macedonian national teams is fighting the usual old demons, namely groups of players in the national team have such a strong bond that no matter how badly any of them underperforms, they can not be removed from the national squad.

Case in point Naumovski/Pandev/Stojkov. Only Pandev is a national caliber player while Naumovski and Stojkov have been colossal failures. So far no coach has been able to tell Stojkov or Naumovski "you are just not good enough". Both players started in the first XI for the longest time, scoring 2 goals in 35 matches for the national team. As strikers, this is utterly unacceptable, but they remained in the national team while much better players were passed up.

Naumovski last night once again showed he should not be in the national squad. From two meters away he rattled the crossbar? Missing glorious chances time and time again has become his trademark.

Stojkov, and I will include Shumulikoski here, are a story in itself. Stojkov was alleged to have bet on matches in Switzerland and has not scored for Macedonia since the 1900's. What is Stojkov doing in the national team? Being Pandev's friend since the Belasica days is right now the only qualification.

Shumulikoski has been a sad story for 2 years now. The extemely slow Macedonian midfielder hasn't played a match at club level for two years... could only make the JV teams in the English Championship League. He was at Ipswitch Town, QPR, Preston... it's tough to follow him because he played perhaps three match for all teams combined. His tryout at Preston didn't work out (was he slow?), so Shumi ended up in Siberia at Novosibirsk.

During all this time Shumi was a prominent member of the national team, at one point the captain!? Is the Macedonian national team so bad that we rely on players who don't play for their clubs or can't find clubs? Certainly not, it's about the coach not being able for one or another reason to make the right calls.

Now let's look at Shumi's replacement at midfield, Mario Gjurovski, the son of celebrated Macedonian ace Milko Gjurovski. Mario has been a tremendous influence and he's played only three matches for the national team. As a central midfielder he's organized the game to a level not seen before, he is finding players with incredible ease and putting strikers in goal positions time after time and is also capable of scoring goals as he has already shown.

Time for Jonuz to thank Naumovski, Stojkov and Shumi for their services and replace them with Trickovski, Gjurovski, Gligorov. If not, Macedonian fans are going to witness yet another dreadful qualifying campaign. //Pero Stamatovski

Some bad news today. Our #1 keeper Tome Pacovski fractured his fibula and tibia and will be out for at least six months.

Makalek, Edin Nuredinovski should get the job done.

Bratot, If we can get a draw i'll be happy, we just need to keep Vittek under control. He is a very good finisher but still we are very capable of getting a good result.

Jonuz said that there will be some changes made, hopefully he makes the right ones.

Macedonian National Team Players Give Up Money for 4th place

                          Friday, 20 August 2010

Goran Pandev is the new captain of the Macedonian national team, announced coach Mirsad Jonuz at today's press conference.

Macedonia will open its 2012 Euro qualifications with a tricky away fixture against Slovakia, who showed good form in its first ever World Cup in South Africa.

The national team will gather on August 30th in Bratislava, for their upcoming match on September 3rd. Jonuz has challenges in the goalkeeping position, thanks to a freak self inflicted accident in which first choice goalie Tome Pachovski broke his leg during a match in Belgium's premier league. Edin Nuredinovski is expected to take his place.

"Nuredinovski showed good form against Azerbaijan and Romania. He will start" said Jonuz. Nuredinovski is playing his club football at Cypriot side Ethnikos.

The main goal of the national team is to avoid the dreaded 4th position, something they haven't achieved in all of their qualifying campaigns. If the team places in the 4th spot once more, the players have unanimously announced they will give up any earnings/bonuses.

British bookmakers have listed Macedonia at 50:1 odds to qualify for Euro 2012.

FC Vardar, Once Feared Club, today with Empty Bank Acct

FC Vardar of Skopje, established in 1947 was for 60 years 'the club' from Macedonia. In the former Yugoslavia and outside it was one of the most feared clubs to play against. And with good reason, every Macedonian talent, if great enough always found its place in FC Vardar.

From the 50's all the way to the 90's the famous Skopje club produced players who played key roles in the Yugoslavian national team. The legends are too many to name, have your pick: Sokrat Mojsov, the one and only Andon Donchevski, Dragan Mutibarich, Slobodan Gorachinov, Vasil Ringov, Metodije Spasovski, Ilija Najdovski, Darko Panchev...

How good was Vardar, you ask? In 1986/87 they were crowned Yugoslav champions, despite the Yugoslav FA not being big fans of Macedonian clubs in general. At the time when Crvena Zvezda, Hajduk, Dinamo Zagreb, Partizan, Sloboda Tuzla were at their strongest Vardar won the title.

Two years after Vardar won the title, Crvena Zvezda made a huge investment and bought the best players out of Vardar: Darko Pancev, Dragan Kanatlarovski, Ilija Najdovski, (Savevski signed for AEK Athens). Perhaps it didn't come as a surprise when the Belgrade based club ended up winning the European Champions League with Darko Panchev as the top European goal-scorer.

How good was Vardar you ask? The Bulgarian national team played six friendly matches not against Macedonia or Yugoslavia, but against Vardar. It lost all six matches with goal difference 19:2. To make things sadder for Bulgaria, FC Vardar's management felt awkward so on most matches at half time they would replace half of the team, but Vardar still proved too strong and ended up winning the match. Who are we kidding, the late 80's Vardar team would have a field day with today's Macedonian national team.

                            The Berbatov case:

Early in 1997 Vardar's management was approached by a lowly Bulgarian club Pirin Blagoevgrad and asked whether they'd be interested in signing an unknown who showed potential. His name, Dimitar Berbatov.

Vardar's management responded with: "the kid has potential, but we have 20 players like him". The management passed on the opportunity to buy Berbatov for very little money. Berbatov can consider himself lucky, he is doing just fine today.

                            Sponsors

FC Vardar can attribute their long success (until the mid nineties) to their Board of directors. The Board was made up of several members from the City of Skopje Council, an executive member from Alkaloid AD, a member representing the fans, and several other members who invested in the club. The city of Skopje was the largest investor at the time, followed by Alkaloid AD, a powerful Skopje based pharma company. The newer generation perhaps isn't aware that Vardar, the club, had its own airline... I wish I was kidding...

                            FC Vardar Today

The Skopje based club is constantly in the news. The older generation is brought to tears when they hear what is happening to the only Mak club who had built a European image, a brand for 60 years.

Today Vardar is forced to 'sign' 16 year old players who play for free (it's illegal), because the club has virtually no money on its bank account. Recently, Vardar's non existent management forfeited a match, they are too embarassed to even say why. No one can contact the club anymore.

For the past 10 years, Vardar has been run by businessmen with questionable characters who used the club as a way to hide their true earnings from the Government by way of 'financing in a sports club'. This resulted in the news we are all reading about the club today.

First it was Orka (sports equipment maker) who sold any decent player while not investing the money back into the club. Orka ran the club into the ground, but it was not completely finished. That was the job of Serbian born German Braco Vujacic who practically destroyed what was left from the club when he took over the reigns. Under his reign there were reports of numerous match fixing scandals.

Numerous initiatives were created to save the club, with each one failing miserably. During the last three years there has been repeated attempts by British and Italian companies to buy the club and bring it back to where it once was, however local Macedonian shady characters appear in the last minute to sabotage any takeover.

Vardar is now facing the possibility of being relegated to the second division, even though the season had just started. The once mighty club has been battered for 15 years with no end in sight. Will the Macedonian pride ever see the light of day? //Pero Stamatovski

What a tragedy in many cases.

And Berbatov was passed overlooked by management because according to them "the kid has potential, but we have 20 players like him"?

                            What a mistake that was.

Mistakes like that do happen, Andrey Shevchenko as a 17 year old went to Dinamo Zagreb (Then called Croatia Zagreb) on loan from Dinamo Kiev and was told he wasnt good enough and returned back to Dinamo Kiev.

Things like this do happen, keep in mind that in 1997 Berbatov was 16 years old who would be prepared to take a punt on him?

Vardar was a club that was never run by football profesionals since the Break up of SFRJ, it was always run by profiteers and money launders. The recent president Vanco Shehtanski openly stated that over 20 million euros have been launders through the club in the past 20 years, players would be sold off and certain individuals pocketed the funds.

The reality is that Vardar and to some extent Pelister are the only two clubs who can be marketed in Macedonia, we saw Rabotnicki at one stage and even Makedonija Gjorche Petrov winning titles and nobody really cared about it.

It all starts from FFM and everything must be changed from the top, football is by far the number one sport in Macedonia but the people in charge are a joke and they have never even played the game before, they are not football orientated people.

I think Handball and Basketball is ahead in ratings over in Macedonia. Football comes third.

                                Prolet....Hows this for talent,

From the 50's all the way to the 90's the famous Skopje club produced players who played key roles in the Yugoslavian national team. The legends are too many to name, have your pick: Sokrat Mojsov, the one and only Andon Donchevski, Dragan Mutibarich, Slobodan Gorachinov, Vasil Ringov, Metodije Spasovski, Ilija Najdovski, Darko Panchev...

Prolet, whats your thoughts on this?

How good was Vardar, you ask? In 1986/87 they were crowned Yugoslav champions, despite the Yugoslav FA not being big fans of Macedonian clubs in general. At the time when Crvena Zvezda, Hajduk, Dinamo Zagreb, Partizan, Sloboda Tuzla were at their strongest Vardar won the title.
Bloody Serbs...... I remember it. Vardar finished first and Partizan and Dzvezda had their points reinstated (that they lost early in that season) only because the Yugo FA realised a Macedonian club will take the title. FIFA would not have any of it and insisted Vardar play in UEFA comp and were the true local champions.
