this is a serious question because i am confused what it is that makes one greek.
i have greek cousins who dont speak the language dont know anything about greece were born in australia, but still speak macedonian .
i know greeks whose parents still speak arvanitiki at home when they dont want their children to understand them.
my neighbour across the road form katerini sometimes starts speaking in vlach and expects me to understand him because i speak a little greek. there is an armenian guy here called george donikian he claims he too is greek,
then there are the anatolian greeks, and they come in all shaoes and sizes and they all claim to be decendents of who knows who.
while in greece i met a lady who looked polish and was from mount taugetus in the peloponese her surname was deliyanis , delayan is a slavic name, she was greek too. in athens i also met a lady from rumania who couldnt speak greek till she arrived in greece and learned it, she said she was greek too. so were the owners of fix beer m who claim they came from bavaria with otho .
so you see i am very confused what it is that makes a greek a greek. its not language its not ethnic background its not a shared history, the only thing they all have in common is orthodoxy.
but most orthodox are in fact not greeks should they be.
