Visit to Macedonia after name issue settlement, says Papoulias in letter to Ivanov
    Tuesday, 22 December 2009
Visit to Macedonia would be possible only after settlement of the name issue, says Greek President Karolos Papoulias in the letter responding to Macedonian counterpart Gjorge Ivanov's invitation for a visit to the Republic of Macedonia.

"I read Your letter with interest. Greece strongly supports friendly and good-neighborly relations with all neighboring countries, including Yours. I would like to visit fyR Macedonia without having the obstacle of the unresolved name issue", says Papoulias.

He would not like to suggest what is in Macedonia's interest, but firmly believes that the situation must be assessed in a realistic way.

"Solution to the name issue will be beneficial for the legitimate aspirations of Your people. I must stress that the longer the search for a name solution, the longer fyR Macedonia's accession to EU and NATO remains unresolved. I hope to have the opportunity to visit Your country as soon as this difference is in the past", says Papoulias in the letter.

President Ivanov sent the invitation to his Greek counterpart on November 4, aimed at providing a strong impulse in the strengthening of good neighborly relations.

Mr Karolos Papoulias, The only time you'll be visiting Macedonia is when you kiss our us and sign over our land back you stole....
The Macedonians originates it, the Bulgarians imitate it and the Greeks exploit it!

Greece gets Scrutinized by EU over Collapsing Budget

Greece is bracing itself for the most intrusive surveillance of any eurozone state since the launch of the single currency, amid reports that the country's budget deficit is spiralling into a black hole.

Officials from the European Commission and the European Central Bank are on standby for a "monitoring visit" to Athens as soon as they receive word from Greek authorities outlining how they intend to get a grip on public debt.

The Greek financial website Ta Nea reported that last year's deficit may have reached 14.5pc of GDP as a result of plunging tax revenues in the late Autumn, even higher than the 12.7pc "shocker" revealed by the new Socialist (PASOK) government in November.

Julian Callow from Barclays Capital said a detailed analysis of budget data shows the deficit had been running at an annual rate of 16pc over the second half of the year. "The monthly data is even worse than people realise," he said.

Athens is already facing "correction" under the EU's Article 126 (8). If it fails to assuage the Eurogroup by mid-February, it will face Article 126 (9) and the threat of sanctions: a suspension of (EIB) loans, and ultimately fines.

Greece has no easy way out. As an EMU member it cannot devalue to regain competitiveness lost during its boom, even though foreign tourists are defecting to cheaper Turkey. A deflation policy may be self-defeating if it causes the real burden of public debt to rise further. The nightmare scenario will occur if the ECB starts raising rates just as Greece slides deeper into slump.

Just does not seem to get any better for Greece. It could only get worse IMHO. Once the world realise the fake and constructed History of Modern Greece, The romance will be over and then say by by to there most important asset "Tourism". The world will be welcome to the authentic Macedonia and its Timeless History

          magnify the impending pain

It would seem our racist neighbours are having financial difficulties, in line with reciprocal neighbourly conduct I think it might be time to repay their embargo on Macedonia, commence legal proceedings for land & citizenship claims and generally consume as many of their remaining euro's as they have left! In short magnify their pain!
On Delchev's sarcophagus you can read the following inscription: "We swear the future generations to bury these sacred bones in the capital of Independent Macedonia. August 1923 Illinden"

i can give many good reasons, But also many bad ones aswell. IMHO the bottom line is nothing is worth selling your soul for. But if the senario was Macedonia to enter the EU under its constitutional name, i bet not many Macedonians from ROM would object to it.

I fear this is the case.

In a film-making career spanning almost 40 years, Oliver Stone has turned political controversy in America into an art form. He has upset financiers with his caustic portrayal of Wall Street; conservatives with his depiction of Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez and George Bush; and Democrats with his conspiracy theories about the assassination of John F Kennedy.

All of which may come to look like a tea party – of the social as opposed to right-wing protest variety – when his next big venture hits the screens.

Stone announced yesterday that a 10-hour crash course in the history of the 20th century he is putting together for American TV is designed as an antidote to the inaccuracies and biases he believes exist in the conventional historical narrative dished out in American schools and mainstream media. The title alone gives an inkling of what lies ahead: Oliver Stone's Secret History of America.

The thrice-Oscar winning director gave a further glimpse into his thinking at a gathering of TV critics in Pasadena on Saturday, when he didn't so much open up a can of worms as unleash an entire supermarket shelf-load. He began by startling the panel by bringing up the H word.

"Hitler is an easy scapegoat throughout history and it's been used cheaply," he said. Then he mentioned the S word. "Stalin has a complete other story. Not to paint him as a hero, but to tell a more factual representation. He fought the German war machine more than any person," but the US and UK books/media want you to think they defeated Germany.

Then he went on to mention two M words – Chairman Mao and Joseph McCarthy, architect of the 1950s anti-communist purges in Washington, and the T word – Harry Truman's dropping of the atom bomb in 1945.

Of the many potential storms that could be brewing over his Secret History, which will be broadcast by the cable channel Showtime later this year, Hitler promises to be the most incendiary. Stone told the Television Critics Association that "we can't judge people as only 'bad' or 'good'. [Hitler] is the product of a series of actions. It's cause and effect. People in America don't know the connection between WWI and WWII."

The implication that Stone is seeking to put forward a good side of the German dictator hitherto not seen by Americans is, even by Stone's own accomplished record of stirring up stinks, pretty radical.

The comment inspired Stone's collaborator on his Secret History, Peter Kuznick, a history professor at the Washington-based American University, to tell the audience of television critics and, in an apparent damage-limitation exercise: "He's not saying we're going to come out with a more positive view of Hitler. But we're going to describe him as a historical phenomenon."

Even so, such a relativist approach to Hitler as a product of his time as much as an individual embodiment of evil is likely to prove hot material. Stone said he would similarly put Stalin "in context". "I've been able to walk in Stalin's shoes and Hitler's shoes, to understand their point of view. You cannot approach history unless you have empathy for the person you may hate."

Within hours of the comments being made, they had begun, in the predictable pattern of such things, to effervesce on the internet like yeast in dough.

A blogger by the pen name Orphia Nay summed up the billowing emotion: "Ohhhhhh, this is not going to end well," she wrote. Others were less temperate. "Again, another 'blame America first' person. If he/they hate it, just leave it. We'll all have a party and help you pack. You won't even have a full body scan."

Say what you will about Stone, he can't be accused of opting for the easy life. His 2006 film on 9/11, World Trade Center, was both critically acclaimed and a box office hit, with an appeal to all political persuasions. Next he bounced back with a sharp portrait of George Bush in W. Then he made South of the Border, his glowing portrayal of Chávez as champion of the poor which premiered at the Venice film festival in September where Stone appeared with Chávez on his arm. His Wall Street 2, with Michael Douglas reprising Gordon Gekko, is in post-production; it's a fair bet that the money men will come off no better this time than they did the last.

Now his Secret History. "Obviously, Rush Limbaugh is not going to like this history," Stone told the TV critics, which may go down as one of the great understatements of all time.
                      The text is not unreasonable.
We are forced to see the world through a predominantly Anglo/USA perspective. It is a welcome change to see a bit of perspective coming from the the USA.

Th following link shows a Hitler that did not sound unlike the great George Bush Jr in his prime:

Actually, it sounded far more articulate.

PM Gruevski: We will continue to seek for name solution not violating state, national interests
Skopje, January 10 (MIA) - In cooperation with mediator Matthew Nimetz and through direct contacts in the upcoming period, Macedonia will try to reach a solution on the issue raised by Greece. However, this cannot be any kind of solution, but one that will not violate our state and national interests, said Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski after Sunday's promotion of project "Translation of Works by Laureates of Nobel Prize for Literature" in Skopje-based national and university library "St.Kliment Ohridski".

According to PM Gruevski, the Spanish EU Presidency cannot do much until processes regarding Greece's denial of Macedonia's name move forward.

"We are aware why Macedonia was blocked in Bucharest and Brussels, i.e. NATO and EU. We are focused on this. In cooperation with mediator Matthew Nimetz and through direct contacts in the upcoming period, we will try to reach a solution on the issue, which will in a way, represent an exit from the current situation. However, this cannot be any kind of solution. If this was the case, we would have reached it by now. This solution should not violate our state and national interests", underlined Gruevski.

The way i read it is, we will not respect Greece wish's and walk away so we look like the villans. we will continue with this game but lets make it clear..... We will not change our name.

Well, dont expect NATO or EU anytime soon. Simple.

Its not like greece is in a hurry. We have enough problems to deal with.
If gruevski wants to play tough...then all the more power to him. It will make our job that much easier.
