what kind of unity can you have when the albanians want seperatism."Ido not want an uprising of people that would leave me at the first failure, I want revolution with citizens able to bear all the temptations to a prolonged struggle, what, because of the fierce political conditions, will be our guide or cattle to the slaughterhouse"

Skopje. Prime Minister of Macedonia and leader of the VMRO-DPMNE party, Nikola Gruevski enjoys the highest approval rating in his country, writes Macedonian Vecer daily, citing results of a recent public opinion survey carried out by the Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation in partnership with the Institute for Democracy.
28% of the respondents said they place highest trust in the prime minister; 7.7% - in oppositional leader Branko Crvenkovski; 7.5% - in Ali Ahmeti, while 4.3% - in Menduh Thaci.
Alternatively, the one person surveyed was suffering mental retardation.
Anyone know more about these organisations above highlighted in bold?Risto the Great

Shit, I thought the headline was about our hapless Julia...perhaps there's a lesson for her as well, maybe a couple of home grown terrorists on the front bench could be the way forward for the ALP. Something, please anything to save us from Tony Rabbit...

If by 'Institute for Democracy' focus actually means the National Democratic Institute, then its an American NGO of sorts, but is funded by the US Government. The NDI works with Macedonian NGO's and the Macedonian Government to provide training in democractic practice and theory. Some of what they do is actually ok. Of course, it does more damage than good in that it also promotes the Framework Agreement and its full implementation. It has links with the Democratic Party and is an associate member of the Socialist International.
I don't know much about the Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation, but I do know they promote the FA.If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

The Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation:
MCIC was established in 1993, upon domestic initiatives with support from the Dutch Interchurch Aid (DIA) and the World Council of Churches (WCC). The establishment came in response to the problems arising from Yugoslavia’s break-up, heralding a sign of solidarity in the efforts for peaceful resolution of the problems, fostering of good neighborly relations and cooperation among all people living in Macedonia and promotion of peaceful and fair solutions for the existing differences in the region, in a hope that this is possible.Risto the Great

But do I have to ask the same question here again? What exactly is the NDI exploiting (economically) or dominating (politically), or how is it assisting the US Government to do that, that would make it a part of the supposed imperialist machinary of the US?If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Tom, you say that this US Government funded organisation promotes the full implementation of the FA in Macedonia, which is obviously detrimental to Macedonia's sovereignty. Now what business does a US Government backed organisation have in Macedonian affairs, other than to promote their own regional political interests? I guess that massive US base in Macedonia was a coincidence as well...nothing to do with an obvious attempt to stamp their authority in the region.

EM, seeing as you know so much, maybe you can explain to us what America's regional political interests are in the Balkans? If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Macedonia couldn't afford or organize a BYO BBQ in the embassy grounds, let alone project or weild anything of influence.

thought the title was about julia.
Macedonians so readily give gruevski their tick of approval. They are so easily deceived & led by the noose.Has Macedonia got any self respect or sovereignity left to be really an imperialist. What has macedonia learned to be even considered as an imperialist.??If macedonia knew how to lobby properly more intensely like their greek or bulgarian counterparts??A bbq will achieve a fat stomach, yes virginia we are still stuck with the fyrom name.Thhanks to the likes of gruevski & the others who are of the same ilk.
Fyrom was mean't to be a temporary name more like a long dream?"Ido not want an uprising of people that would leave me at the first failure, I want revolution with citizens able to bear all the temptations to a prolonged struggle, what, because of the fierce political conditions, will be our guide or cattle to the slaughterhouse"
