I found these recent images on the internet, it appears that the Greek government is heavily investing in the reconstruction of Alexander the Great Square in Solun, despite the fact that the country's economy faces collapse
New Images: Greece with its own "Solun 2014" Project!?

This isn't related to the Alexander the Great statue. It's the Reform of the Sea Coast of Thessaloniki (5,5 km from White Tower to the Concert Hall) and the 13 new Theme Parks (5 of them are already completed).
The whole work is expected to finish (indeed) by December 2013.

looks like a degraded city that has been neglected. You just wonder where all that money went?"Ido not want an uprising of people that would leave me at the first failure, I want revolution with citizens able to bear all the temptations to a prolonged struggle, what, because of the fierce political conditions, will be our guide or cattle to the slaughterhouse"

Is that what it is...the rebuilding of parts of Solun?
I thought it was the plate smashers expanding their culture a little further by smashing up Solun...and the trees they've cut down, I was sure that had more to do with heating needs for the winter...

they are allways looking for someone else to foot the bill. The germans by now should've gotten on to them & gave them the boot."Ido not want an uprising of people that would leave me at the first failure, I want revolution with citizens able to bear all the temptations to a prolonged struggle, what, because of the fierce political conditions, will be our guide or cattle to the slaughterhouse"
