Saakashvili says hundreds of Georgians fighting alongside ISIS
Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has accused the Georgian government of not doing enough to stop “hundreds” of Georgian nationals who are fighting alongside Islamic State militants.
"Several hundred Georgian citizens have been sent to Syria,” he told Georgia’s Rustavi 2 TV channel on Tuesday.
“The Georgian government, which pulls a face about the fact that Georgians are voluntarily fighting in Ukraine, calling them provocateurs, mercenaries and agents of the United National Movement [Saakashvili's political party] does not say a word about the fact that Georgians, with the help of a variety of tricks, are being dragged to fight in Syria,” he said from his Brooklyn home, where he lives in exile. “Naturally, this is not in Georgia's interests…It is unacceptable.”
Saakashvili did not elaborate further or mention his sources for these numbers.
