Albania withdraws FYROM reference from government's website

Albania withdraws FYROM reference from government's website

    Skopje /16/09/ 16:13
The reference FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) has been withdrawn Tuesday afternoon from the internet site of the Albanian government.

The acronym FYROM was included in the announcement released after the meeting of Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Abdilakim Ademi, which was focused on the marking of the 100th anniversary of the Bitola Congress.

In the introductory part of the English version of the announcement, Macedonia was named as FYROM. The reference has now been replaced with "Macedonia". /end/

Positive it is a once off. They would not tread on Macedonia's toes now.

It looks like Macedonia's deputy prime minister is of Albanian origin. I wondering what the meeting must have been like, as a representative of Macedonia of Albanian origin, met the Albanian delegation. I'm assuming they conversed in Albanian.

I think the next step is to get Albania to recognize Macedonia in international forums, by her constitional name. What's the chances of that happening?

Albania is scared of its greek minority and hence will continue its current name position.

            Albania revokes recognition!

            --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Republic of Albania, the northern neighbor of Hellenic Republic, yesterday reverted its previous decision on Macedonia name used by FYROM and as of today, it recognizes only as FYROM, reports the Albanian prestigious media Top Channel.

Initially, Albania held a neutral position regarding the dispute between Greece and Macedonia, however the recent events, its mistreatment of Albanians in Macedonia, rocky relationship with Kosovo, and warm relationship with Greece has prompted to this decision.

Albania is the first balkan country to support Greece while others continue to support FYROM as Macedonia. There are rumors that inside the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, there is a pressure to recognize southern neighbor only as FYROM.

To enquire after the impression behind an idea is the way to remove disputes concerning nature and reality.

Interesting how all Slavic countries recognize Macedonia as The Republic of Macedonia.

Very bad news for Albanians if this is true.

                    I agree.

It could just be hype. If it is true, it is bad news for Albanians in Macedonia.

Off the topic a bit, but didn't the Albanian government issue a statement recently that it would change the topynyms of the Mala Prespa region back to their original Macedonian?

They are supporting one of their own. WE CALL IT PANSLAVISM FOR CENTURIES, YOU KNOW. And Greece is where the Greek army and people bury it, some 60 years ago.

The birth of Modern Greece owes its allegiance to guess who, RUSSIA ! Would you call that "Panslavism" too ?

Second, the Greek army COULD NOT BEAT THE MACEDONIANS, who were fighting in and around their native villages. It was the U.S that beat the Macedonians. The U.S no this chapter of their history very well, which is why they accept the existence of a native Macedonian minority in Greece. Because they were called in by the Greeks to fight them.

I never really understood why people put negative connotations to certain words without any real reason. Like Pan-Slavism. Put then again, most people don't think what is good or bad, they just pick their favourite.

The idea of Pan-Slavism is supported mostly in Russia, Serbia and Slovakia.

Russia generally places their own interests first. I'm not saying its good or bad - but its definately the Russian way (always has been), and that is perhaps how Russia works around panslavism (I'm only assuming of course).

Russia definitely knows how to look after its own interests. Basically, they have the strength to defy The West, which I like. Kosovo was such a lie. The West made monkeys and fools out of all of us there. Lying about mass graves. The well documented "staged suffering" of Albanians ...etc. Russia is simply taking a stand on principle, and I can't blame it for that.
