Why Macedonians chose Communism in Aegean Macedonia???

These essays examine several aspects of the nature of the emerging strategic environment and how this situation affects thinking about U.S. strategy in the 21st century. The United States and its Allies currently confront a number of major trouble spots around the world. In addition, the stability and defense policies of U.S. Allies represent an increasingly important factor in the making of U.S. foreign policy. How well the American military is adjusting to the post-Cold War world with the threats of declining defense budgets and rapid changes in technology, will be a determining factor in the course of the coming decade. Here, the discussion of an impending joint military culture and service cultures out of touch with the harsh realities of the emerging strategic environment combine in a dramatic prediction of 21st century foreign strategies. The Balkans, the Middle East, and Russia all present considerable defense planning difficulties with no obvious solutions. The Balkans represent the clearest immediate danger, as the weight of history and current political ambitions threaten to destabilize Europe's southeastern flank. In the mid-term range are Middle Eastern concerns such as water shortages, border disputes, and new rivalries, all of which unbalance an area whose oil reserves fuel the world economy. Finally, the Russian military collapse suggests that the future Russian threat may result more from national weakness than from strength.

Many of the latter were Albanians, Macedonians, Bulgarians, and Wallachians(Vlachs). They had joined the communist side-not so much from ideological conviction as from a desire to resist the forced hellenization imposed on the from Athens since 1919.

Modern "greeks" love distorting the truth. Too bad we're here to show the other side (the TRUTH) of the story.

      Превод:

Тие застанаа на страната на комунистите - не толку од идеолошки убедувања колку од желбата да и' се спротивстават на присилната хеленизација наметната на нив од Атина почнувајќи од 1919.

Noam Chomsky writing about U.S foriegn policy after the second world war.

As elsewhere, the major policy imperative is to block indigenous national forces. A large scale counterinsurgency operation in Greece in 1947 was partially motivated by the concern that the "rot" of independant nationalism there might "infect" the Middle East. A CIA study held that if the rebels were victorious, the United States would face "the possible loss of the petroleum resources of the Middle East". A Soviet threat was concocted in the usual manner, but the real threat was indgenous nationalism, with its feared demonstration effects elsewhere. Source: p.18 After the Cold War: U.S foreign policy in the Middle East
It was a "large scale insurgency operation". A Soviet threat "concocted". The real threat was "indigenous nationalism". He is clearly referring to Macedonians here.

My family was heavily involved in this movement in the 1940's. They didn't care much for Communism, they fought for Macedonia. It wasn't until recent years that my baba even know that the civil war was historically viewed as a war between Greek monarchists and communists. She said the war she experienced was between Greeks and Macedonians and wasn't even aware there were Greek communists. By the end of the war the majority of the Greek Democractic Army was Macedonian who wanted seperatism from Greece and cared little for installing a Communist government.
I know of two tragic histories in the world- that of Ireland, and that of Macedonia. Both of them have been deprived and tormented.
