Generally accepted amongst Macedonians that the names 'Macedonia', 'Macedonian' and 'Macedonians' were taboo in Greece from the partition to around the 1980s. I have found a few sources though that show the name appearing in newspapers, for the names of organisations etc. Even references to Alexander and Philip.
Starting this thread to really look into how true this statement is and a place to collate sources.
From personal experience, many Macedonian-Australians claim that prior to the early 90s, Greek-Australians would say there is no such thing as Macedonia or the Macedonians. They didn't claim Macedonia or Macedonians were Greek, they just claimed they flat out didn't exist. But even this is challenged by the Hellenophilic Macedonian club in Melbourne that was formed in the 1960s (I believe) and the Greek-backed Alexander the Great football club founded in 1958.
