Incident at Skopje Fortress over construction of a sacral object
Skopje, 11 February 2011 (MIA) - About hundred people late on Thursday tore down part of the scaffold of a sacral object, which is being built by the Ministry of Culture at the Skopje Fortress.

The incident was reported to the police by a security guard, who patrolled the facility. He told police officers that nearly hundred people after threatening him started to demolish the scaffold of the facility which was under construction. Police have already launched an investigation into the incident and is due to determine the value of the caused damage.

"The Interior Ministry will bring adequate charges against the perpetrators, as in other previous cases," Ministry spokesman Ivo Kotevski told MIA.

According to witnesses,[B][U] DUI officials were seen last night at the Skopje Fortress, including Minister of Health Bujar Osmani, Deputy Interior Minister Xhevat Buci and Cair municipal mayor Izet Mexhiti. About two weeks ago, DUI representatives demanded construction activities at the site to be halted.[/U][/B]

Following backlash in relation to the construction of a sacral object at the Skopje Fortress, Cultural Heritage Protection Administration director Pasko Kuzman said that construction activities would be temporarily halted until ambiguities over the projects were cleared.

According to Kuzman, the project 'Conservation, Restoration and Reconstruction with Roof Construction of Sacral Structure-Church from 13-14 Century' was being carried out at the Skopje Fortress. ba/fd/13:16
