Turkey, Azerbaijan preparing for joint military drill

URL:
https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turk...drill/1925365#

Turkish war helicopters to be used at exercises arrive at Nakhchivan

BAKU

As Turkey and Azerbaijan are getting ready for a large-scale joint military exercise, some Turkish war helicopters were brought to Nakhchivan.

According to a statement by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, helicopters were carried by military planes owned by the Turkish Air Force, and they were welcomed with a military ceremony.

Following the ceremony, the helicopters were prepared by technical teams for the upcoming exercise.

The military exercise to be held in Baku and Nakhchivan on Aug. 1-5 will include mortars, armed vehicles, and cannons striking simulated targets.

The air forces of both countries will start exercises on July 29, to end on Aug. 10. Both helicopters and warplanes will hold activities in Baku, Nakhchivan, Ganja, Kurdamir, and Yevlakh.

The military exercises are coming shortly after an attack by the Armenian Armed Forces on Azerbaijani troops in the northwestern Tovuz border region. At least 11 Azerbaijani soldiers -- including a major general and a colonel -- were martyred.

Azerbaijan blamed Armenia for the "provocative" actions, with Ankara throwing its weight behind Baku, and warning Yerevan that it would not hesitate to stand against any kind of attack on its eastern neighbor.

Upper Karabakh, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan, is under illegal Armenian occupation since 1991.

About a decade ago, Turkey was promoting a policy of "zero problems with neighbours". Now the Turks have issues in/with Syria, Iraq, Israel, the Mediterranean, Libya, the EU, the U.S. and Armenia, let alone their internal problems with the Kurds. Perhaps in some cases, they have the right to defend their interests, however, from a geo-political perspective Erdogan's perceived belligerence will be difficult to sustain in that region. If they lose Russian support, they're going to be in trouble.

Russia's Putin, Turkey's Erdogan discuss conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, JULY 28, 2020

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan discussed by phone the intensified military conflict on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Kremlin said on Monday. “Readiness was expressed to coordinate efforts for stabilisation in the region,” the Kremlin said. Putin said earlier this month that the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia was a highly sensitive matter for Russia.

BREAKING – Azerbaijan launches a "counter offensive" across the entire front with Armenia.

Turkey’s invasion of Armenia would activate the CSTO treaty, which in turn might activate the North Atlantic one. Scary.

(The Collective Security Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance that was signed on 15 May 1992. In 1992, six post-Soviet states belonging to the Commonwealth of Independent States—Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan—signed the Collective Security Treaty.)

URL:
https://www.mkd.mk/svet/vesti/rusija...irija-i-libija

Azerbaijan's army apparently took control of the villages of Majili, Cakirli, Lower Maralyan, Sheibey and Quycaq in Gabriel region and lower Abdurrahmanli village in Fuzuli region. Armenian Defence lines collapsed at multiple locations.

Armenians living in the city of Stepanakert are fleeing their homes to Yerevan and other Armenian cities. Very few Armenians remain in the city, the city is now in complete blackout.

Azeri forces hit Stepanakert power station with missile. No electricity in the city.
