I cannot locate another source about Nicholas the Macedonian. Unfortunately that is the only passage of him in the book.

As far as more info on the painting - http://www.bridgemanartondemand.com/...smund_c1511-13

It was drawn between 1511-1513 by Albrecht Dürer a German painter. Maybe Jonovski can help us verify that the lion is certainly the Macedonian lion?

The one to the right of the Macedonian looks like the symbol of the Slovaks, however, it is also used in the coat of arms of Hungary.

The top left does look East Roman as RtG states, the one on the bottom left could be Polish, not sure about the bottom right yet though.

Good suggestion TM, I will post the link to this thread on the one about the coat of arms.

The "sloths of Europe" are now the sloths of Western civilisation.
Interesting times ahead for those nations who refuse to acknowledge history.

After some further research I found that the lion in the Sigimund painting is not the Macedonian lion but the Bohemian coat. Either way history has recorded Macedonians fighting the Ottoman Turks under Sigismund. Here's something more interesting that I found to elaborate further the Macedonian involvement in fighting against the new oppressor, the Ottomans;

Quote:
The Ottoman state in 1389 may have been large, but it was also very fragile. In europe, not only did the opposition remain in Macedonia, Constantinople, and elsewhere, but King Sigismund of Hungary also resisted Ottoman advances.
The Ottoman Empire and early modern Europe By Daniel Goffman page 45

This is a very interesting period in Macedonian history. I would like to look for further info on this 'Nicholas the Macedonian' as well. Where did the author find this reference? That is the question.
