If Bulgaria has a negative stance towards Macedonia, then can you explain me the following:

    1. Why it was the first to recognise it?
    2. Why in 2001, during the conflict with the Albanians, Bulgaria gave as a gift and free of charge 100 tanks and 150 artillery units to RoM?
    3. Why in 2009, Bulgaria donated vaccines to Macedonia worth 200 000 euro?
    4. Why is Bulgaria supporting RoM's membership in EU and NATO without any demands?

Aren't those 4 positive steps towards a mutual coexistence on the Balkans?

And the "Where is Macedonia heading?" forum was not aired on TV so I have only seen bits and peaces of it. I know Bulgaria invited representatives from RoM, but they declined.

Here's one short clip from it which I found. I think you'll agree with everything said, except the Alexander part.

Wow, 15 years in RSA? Bit of a weird place for a Balkanian haha

In your opinion, is there any Bulgarians living in Macedonia? If so, how many and do you think that they receive the basic human rights?
Also why are you so interested in Macedonia and the Macedonians, is it just because we are neighbours or is it something much similar to all Bulgarians, eg perceived cultural/linguistics traditions... ?

Actually they were free to call themselves Macedonians and this was not a big deal. Even today you'll find plenty of Bulgarians who call themselves Macedonian. But to say that today there is a Macedonian ethnic minority is a very different story. This goes against the Bulgarian constitution, which clearly says that in Bulgaria there are no minorities. Macedonians, Turks, Romans and Armenians are all considered equal with ethnic Bulgarians.

.Curtesy of Phoenix ."".you're a fuckin' idiot.

Macedonians aren't really recognized as minorities SO you are no better than the greeks who deny macedonian ethnicity. You are fucking lying to yourselves.
THe real reason is that the truth is the real reason bulgaria supports macedonia is that it forgets of it's own people & doesn't question their status quo.Look at macedonia it doesn't seem to care at all.Looks like they sold out the same as with the greeks basically a vassal doing the bidding.Macedonia is well & trully fucked up turning a blind to what's happening in pirin.
those 100 tanks were old & broken down & anthing else was on loan. Also you get a lot of tourists coming from macedonia. It's a right royal mess you got yourselves in Yet you still continue & deny hey reality check this is 2012.Also you are members of the eu both bulgaria & greece.Think about it your country is still totaliraian type like the nazis in behaviour. You haven't learn't anything.Yet you still continue & pretend that nothing is happening. Now that i know the whole story i have no sympathy as you don't show any effort to CHANGE your evil ways.THis thread should be closed up finished & razer you haven't learn to admit things you knew it all the time go away never to be seen again.Don't try to bs to us WE now know the whole story. So at what level are you with the NAZI bulgarian party Razer??Do you get paid for the number of beatings your thugs issue out.??Good riddance you NAZI STOOGE>

You can say that again bro. Bulgaria and RSA are like two different planets. But I'm glad to be back and I actually prefer it here. Bulgaria has changed a lot over the past 15 years, especially in the last 3-5 years. And in positive way, although there are still many problems. But people's mentality seems to improve, which I think is the key to a better future.

This is a difficult question to answer...In 2002 their official number was 1417 (or just 0.1% of the total population). Today that number is probably even lower. To declare yourself a Bulgarian in Macedonia is risky. There are many cases of people losing their jobs and going in jail for that. Most of those people eventually come to Bulgaria. One of them is Мирослав Ризински who spent 3 years in jail just for declaring himself Bulgarian. He now lives here. So based on that I can say no - I don't think Bulgarians in RoM receive any basic human rights.

I ask myself the exact same question, after reading the comments from George S and Phoenix...I came here because I do support the struggle of Macedonia, although I don't agree with some of the way it's being done, and I do want Macedonians to live free and harmony with the rest of us on the Balkans. I'm sad to see Macedonia going backward away from it's place in Europe and into some kind of vacuum where politicians can do everything they want, I'm sad to see kids being shot, I'm sad to see Islam spreading on Christian lands...

Well, he's most popular as a victim of the Tito regime, who got sentenced to the notorious Goli Otok for his ideas.

Some people acknowledge him as a Macedonian-born literati, while others denounce him because of his choice to declare himself as a Bulgarian later in his life.

Personally, I think he did it because he did not approve of the situation the then-socialistic Republic of Macedonia was in, but that is just my own belief. I know people who claim that he was a believer of the idea that Macedonians and Bulgarians are actually the same people. But, still, I think he wouldn't have chosen Bulgarian over Macedonian citizenship if it wasn't for the socialists.

I think by some of his statements while living in Bulgaria it is obvious he would be seen in a negative way.

Thanks for the feedback. I just finished watching a 1-hour interview with his wife and she talked about how them met, his early life and career, etc...Very interesting. To be honest, I didn't knew much about him until today (I have spent the last half of my live living abroad). Shameful, I know...

Razer can you gives a rundown of his life and doings and when he came out of the closet as a full fledged Bulgarian?
