Athanasios Psalidas (1767-1829) on Macedonia's inhabitants

Macedonia, the eighth province, which is famous for Philip and Alexander the Great, has today fallen low because it is inhabited by base people. The land is rich and produces cereals, wine, silk, cotton and other things. However, learning has vanished completely; its inhabitants are Bulgars, Turks, and a few Greek and Vlach colonists from Albania.

Athanasios Psalidas I Tourkia kata tas archas tou ITH (Turkey in the early 19th century) Edited by G. Charitakis, Ioaninna, 1931,page 55.

    Here's a wiki article on Psalidas - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athanasios_Psalidas

Athanasios Psalidas(Greek: Αθανάσιος Ψαλίδας 1767-1829), was a Greek author and scholar, one of the most renowned figures of the Greek Enlightenment.

    [edit] Life
He was born at 1767 in Ioannina, where he completed ground level education. He continued his studies in Russia (1785-1787) and in Austria (1787-1795). In 1791 he published his first work, Real bliss (Αληθής Ευδαιμονία), written in both Greek and Latin. With this work he reestablished fundamental theoretical positions on the existence of God, immortality, afterlife, freedom of man, and the concept of the limits of freedom.
According to this enlightenment figure the supposed "Greeks and Vlachs" are colonists from Albania. A famous "greek macedonian" who's Albanian roots are rarely talked about are Ion Dragoumis - http://www.macedoniantruth.org/forum...read.php?t=875 I doubt his "hellenic ancestry" though.

Those supposed "greeks" from Albania were most likely Albanians and Vlachs who spoke the merchant tongue which happened to be Romaika.
